Ukrzaliznytsia passengers are complaining about the unbearable heat in the train cars
Passengers on Ukrzaliznytsia trains are complaining en masse about inhumane travel conditions due to non-functioning air conditioners and closed windows during heat waves exceeding +35°C, which is causing people and animals to feel unwell.
Comments on the social media platform Threads have reported hospitalizations and even fatalities due to extreme temperatures on trains, which in some cases reached +45°C. This is evidenced by comments from users on the social network Threads, where passengers note that the lack of ventilation directly threatens the health of children, adults, and pets. In particular, passengers on the Helm–Kharkiv and Kovel–Kyiv routes are urging the carrier to address the problem and not to put cars into service without proper cooling.

In response to the complaints, Ukrzaliznytsia advised passengers to immediately notify the conductor or train manager of malfunctioning air conditioners or jammed windows so they can move to another car if seats are available. The state-owned carrier confirmed that some of its rolling stock is not equipped with air conditioning systems at all. However, the company explained that taking such cars out of service would result in the loss of thousands of passenger seats, which would significantly exacerbate the already acute ticket shortage.
