A petition calling for payments to the families of missing servicemen has gained support
A petition on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine calling for a review of the law’s provisions regarding the establishment of a uniform payment amount for families of missing servicemen has reached the number of signatures required for consideration.
According to the government platform, the online petition was registered on February 27 and, as of May 27, had received over 25,000 signatures from citizens.
The Cabinet of Ministers is now required to officially review this initiative and provide a response.
The author of the petition emphasizes that it is unacceptable to limit financial support for the families of Ukrainian defenders whose fate remains unknown.
“The state must not skimp on the families of those who have stood up to defend Ukraine. Social guarantees must be comprehensive, unconditional, and not reduced depending on the duration of the uncertainty,” the original text of the petition states.
Citizens are demanding that current social standards remain stable.
In addition to revising payment limits, the document contains several other categorical demands for government officials.
In particular, the initiator calls for ensuring that there is no reduction in existing social guarantees and for providing an official written explanation regarding the application of transitional provisions to military personnel who went missing before the law came into effect.
The text also mentions the need to hold a public discussion involving the families of servicemen missing in action.
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the high-profile bill No. 13646 in the second reading on February 25.
The document provides for amendments to certain laws regarding social protection for military personnel in basic military service, their family members, and other issues.
The authors of the legislative initiative noted that the law introduces a unified approach to payments for the families of defenders who have died or gone missing—without different rules for identical circumstances.
