An electric train caught fire while in motion near Cherkasy
An electric train caught fire while in motion in the Cherkasy district. As a result of the incident, 40 passengers were evacuated; there were no injuries.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Cherkasy region on Facebook.
According to rescue workers, the incident occurred on May 12 near the village of Kosari in the Cherkasy district. The fire broke out in the train cars while the train was in motion.
Before the arrival of State Emergency Service units, passengers were evacuated, and initial firefighting efforts began using primary fire extinguishing equipment.
Rescuers completely extinguished the fire, which covered an area of about 180 square meters, preventing it from spreading further.
A fire train and a local volunteer fire brigade were involved in the firefighting efforts.
“There were no casualties at the scene. The cause of the fire is being determined,” the State Emergency Service noted.
