Ukraine has announced its readiness to send a rescue mission to Venezuela, which was struck by a powerful earthquake. This involves Ukrainian specialists participating in search-and-rescue operations and providing assistance to victims in the devastated areas.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine could join international relief efforts in Venezuela following the massive earthquake, which caused significant destruction and numerous casualties. According to him, Ukrainian officials are already in contact with Venezuelan and European partners and are awaiting further decisions regarding the coordination of the mission.
In a statement on the social media platform X, the head of state emphasized that Ukrainian rescue workers are ready to promptly join search operations, provide assistance to those trapped under rubble, and evacuate the injured. He also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery, specifically noting the work of all services currently operating in the disaster zone.
According to reports from international agencies, the 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes were among the most powerful in the region in recent decades, causing buildings to collapse and widespread destruction of infrastructure. As of the latest data, at least 164 people are known to have died and more than 900 have been injured, though the death toll may rise as rubble is cleared and rescue operations continue. Zelenskyy wrote about this on social media platform X.
