Following the attacks on the port of Chornomorsk, the area of contamination in the Tuzly Estuaries has increased significantly
In the Odesa region, within the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park, a significant expansion of the area affected by oil pollution has been recorded; the oil entered the Black Sea following attacks on the port of Chornomorsk.
This was reported by park employee Ivan Rusev on Facebook
According to him, after the easterly wind intensified on May 12, there was a second spill of the contaminated substance onto the coast, causing oil to reappear on beaches and sandy areas in various parts of the nature reserve.
“Yesterday, May 12, following strong easterly winds, there was a renewed oil spill on the park’s beaches and sandy shores in various areas. As of the evening of May 12, the total area of contamination had significantly increased, reaching several tens of thousands of square meters,” Rusev noted.
The ecologist clarified that the area of contamination had previously been approximately 10,000 square meters, but has now increased severalfold.
Experts warn that such incidents pose a threat to coastal ecosystems, particularly to birds and marine organisms inhabiting the estuary area.
Earlier in the Odesa region, within the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park, nearly 2,000 swans were spotted gathering near the reserve’s administrative building as frost set in.
In the Odesa region, on the coast of the Tuzly Estuaries National Park, fuel oil was discovered and collected that had leaked due to an accident involving two Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait.
