The Tax Service Launches Hotlines for Affected Businesses
The State Tax Service is launching special “hotlines” in the regions for entrepreneurs affected by the war. Businesses will be able to contact tax officials if they have lost property or documents due to shelling or are having trouble meeting their tax obligations.
Following Russian attacks, entrepreneurs are often left not only without property but also without important documents and the ability to operate normally. In such situations, tax issues arise that need to be resolved even when a business is effectively unable to conduct its usual operations. For this very reason, the State Tax Service has decided to launch regional “hotlines.” Through these hotlines, entrepreneurs will be able to receive advice on their tax issues following damage to or destruction of property.
Lesya Karnaukh, acting head of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, urged businesses not to delay reaching out. “After shelling, the first reaction is shock. And at that moment, business owners certainly don’t always know where to turn or what to do, particularly regarding tax matters. Therefore, I ask affected businesses not to delay—contact our specialists,” she noted. According to her, the tax service aims to be a place where entrepreneurs can quickly obtain the necessary information, rather than an additional problem.
Which Businesses Will Receive Assistance
This primarily concerns businesses that have suffered losses due to Russian shelling or other consequences of the war. These may include enterprises, stores, manufacturing facilities, offices, and other properties that have been damaged or destroyed. The loss of documents may pose a separate problem. After a fire or the destruction of a facility, an entrepreneur may not have access to contracts, accounting documents, and other important information.
Another issue is tax obligations. If a business cannot operate due to damage, owners may have questions regarding taxes, reporting, and confirming the circumstances that caused the business to effectively cease operations. In such cases, tax officials should explain to business owners what steps they need to take and what documents may be required.
Why It’s Important to Seek Assistance Immediately
After an attack, business owners usually think first and foremost about people, rescue efforts, and the restoration of premises and equipment. Tax issues often take a back seat. At the same time, putting them off for too long can be difficult. Business owners need to understand how to properly document the extent of the damage, confirm the loss of property or documents, and proceed within the legal framework.
That is why the tax authority advises contacting specialists immediately after a business has been affected. This should help business owners understand their next steps and avoid wasting time searching for answers at various agencies. The regional “hotline” system is also designed to simplify the process of obtaining assistance for businesses without having to contact the tax service’s central office.
For entrepreneurs operating in frontline regions or regularly facing the consequences of Russian attacks, such consultation can be particularly important. After all, in the wake of destruction, they must simultaneously resume operations, document the consequences of the attack, and resolve financial and tax issues. This was reported by the press service of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
