Poklad will temporarily head the SBU following Khmara's move to the Ministry of Defense
First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Poklad will become the agency’s interim head. He will serve as acting head of the SBU after the current head of the service, Yevhen Khmara, moves to the Ministry of Defense.
Earlier on Thursday, Zelenskyy stated that he would propose to the Verkhovna Rada that Yevhen Khmara be appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine. Khmara is currently serving as acting head of the SBU. At the president’s direction, he is to transfer to the Ministry of Defense and serve as acting head of that agency.
Following this, leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine will temporarily pass to Oleksandr Poklad, who currently serves as first deputy head of the SBU. Poklad has worked at the Security Service for many years. He is responsible for operations related to counterintelligence and the protection of state interests.
Thus, personnel changes may soon take place within Ukraine’s security sector—Khmara is set to move to the Ministry of Defense, and the SBU will have an interim head. This information comes from sources at “Ukrainska Pravda” within President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s team.
