Members of the Ukrainian Parliament did not support a bill that proposed increasing penalties for speeding, with a focus on combating habitual violations. The bill was intended to improve road safety and reduce the number of traffic accidents.

Speeding is the leading cause of traffic accidents resulting in fatalities and injuries. In recent months alone, there have been several high-profile fatal accidents in Kyiv, the Odesa region, and the Mykolaiv region, where, in most cases, the drivers had been repeatedly held accountable for traffic violations shortly before the incidents.
“We emphasize once again: road safety is not just about decisions made at the level of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police. It also requires urgent changes to the law. Today’s decision has once again postponed these changes, but it does not stop our work. I thank the lawmakers who understand the importance of this issue and are taking a proactive stance,” he emphasized.
