The dollar could drive up prices for coffee, bananas, and other imported products

Fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate could affect the prices of a number of products in Ukrainian stores. Goods that Ukraine imports or produces using foreign raw materials are most likely to see price increases.

According to Maksym Hopka, head of the analytical department at UCAB, the products most vulnerable to currency fluctuations are coffee, cocoa, bananas, tropical fruits, some seafood, and certain spices.

For directly imported goods, the exchange rate has a direct impact: suppliers purchase products using foreign currency, after which the cost in Ukraine is converted to hryvnia. At the same time, the new exchange rate is not necessarily reflected immediately on price tags—changes may reach consumers gradually.

Currency fluctuations can also affect Ukrainian products. Domestic producers use imported machinery, equipment, fertilizers, plant protection products, fuel, and packaging. The cost of some of these resources depends on global prices and transactions in foreign currency.

Therefore, a rise in the value of the dollar may gradually increase the production costs of both imported goods and some Ukrainian-made products.

In addition, purchase prices for raw milk are rising in Ukraine due to increased export demand and higher prices for commodities on the global market
