Polish activists decided to present Zelensky with their own medal
Polish civil society activists announced their intention to award Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy their own order following Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to strip him of the Order of the White Eagle.
The initiative was supported by representatives of the liberal-democratic segment of Polish society, who opposed this move by the Polish government.
“Ukrainians are giving their lives for security—their own, Poland’s, and Europe’s. Politicians are arguing about 1943, while in 2026, people are dying every day in Ukraine,” the statement reads.
The authors of the initiative also stated that they disagree with the politicization of historical issues and believe that some Polish politicians are playing into Russian propaganda.
“Therefore, as citizens of the Republic of Poland, we are presenting our own medal. This is a grassroots initiative. In this way, we are showing that many Poles will not be swayed against Ukrainians,” the activists noted.
