Poland is not changing the operations of its embassy in Kyiv despite threats from Russia

Poland has no plans to change the operating procedures of its embassy in Kyiv despite new threats from Russia and calls for foreign diplomats to leave the Ukrainian capital. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that such actions will not force Warsaw to weaken its support for Ukraine.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has no plans to change the operating procedures of its embassy in Kyiv. The ministry responded to further threats from Russia and calls for foreign diplomats to leave the Ukrainian capital. The Polish Foreign Ministry believes that Moscow is attempting to intimidate European countries and weaken their support for Ukraine.

Warsaw emphasized that such actions will not produce the result Russia desires. “However, such measures, which contradict the principles of international law, will not have the desired effect. Russia will not succeed in either exhausting Ukraine or undermining European solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” the Polish Foreign Ministry stated. The ministry also assured that Poland continues to support Ukraine, particularly its right to self-determination and territorial integrity.

They emphasized that Warsaw has no intention of changing its policy in response to Russian threats. Poland also plans to respond to Russia’s actions together with its allies and increase pressure on the Kremlin. “We will continue to respond decisively to Russia’s irresponsible and dangerous actions and, together with our allies, increase pressure on the Kremlin. We have no intention of changing the operating procedures of the Polish Embassy in Kyiv,” the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized.

The Polish Embassy continues to operate in Kyiv. The Polish government’s official website also lists the contact information for the embassy and its consular section in the Ukrainian capital. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously stated that it would maintain its diplomatic presence in Ukraine despite security risks. In May 2026, the ministry also responded to statements by Russia calling on foreigners, particularly diplomats, to leave Kyiv.

Thus, Warsaw currently has no plans to scale back the operations of its embassy in the Ukrainian capital. The Polish side emphasizes that it will maintain its diplomatic presence in Kyiv and its support for Ukraine. This is stated in a post by the ministry on social media platform X.

Diplomats from European Union countries continue to work in Kyiv, despite Russia’s calls to leave the Ukrainian capital. EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternová stated that the EU Delegation and the embassies of member states are continuing their work while increasing their focus on the safety of their staff.
