The education ombudsman has received more than 160 reports of bullying since the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of 2026, the Office of the Education Ombudsman has received 168 complaints regarding violence, abuse, and discrimination in educational institutions.
These statistics indicate a significant increase in the number of official complaints regarding bullying within the country’s educational institutions.
The safety situation in the educational environment shows a negative trend compared to previous reporting periods. According to her, as of June 2, the number of such complaints had already exceeded the total for the entire year of 2025.
Last year, the service received 165 reports related to bullying, abuse, and discrimination against participants in the educational process.
The relevant agency uses a comprehensive approach to address each reported case of bullying or rights violations.
Nadiya Leshchyk emphasized that each situation requires individual consideration and response.
Representatives of school administrations, parent committees, and local self-government bodies are involved to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of conflicts.
Depending on the circumstances, the ombudsman contacts the leadership of educational institutions, the founders of the institutions, and, in some cases, law enforcement agencies.
In complex cases, face-to-face meetings between the parties to the conflict are organized, and special commissions established by educational institutions or education authorities are involved in the process.
Such intervention allows for finding legal avenues to resolve disputes.
The Ombudsman’s Office emphasizes the need for preventive measures and the development of clear protocols for child protection.
The Education Ombudsman emphasized that educational institutions must ensure a safe environment for all participants in the educational process and foster zero tolerance for any manifestations of violence and discrimination.
Only systematic work can change the situation.
