The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have uncovered six underground channels for the illegal sale of weapons and ammunition in various regions of the country. During a special operation, law enforcement officers detained the organizers of these schemes and seized a significant arsenal of weapons.
Among the seized items were Kalashnikov assault rifles, including Russian AK-12s, 130 anti-tank grenade launchers, over 380 combat grenades, and nearly 20,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.
In the Kyiv and Donetsk regions, four active-duty and former military personnel were detained who, according to the investigation, were transporting weapons from frontline areas for further sale. One of them was detained in the Kyiv region while attempting to sell an assault rifle and a grenade launcher; three others were detained in Kramatorsk.
In the Khmelnytskyi region, a former soldier was placed under suspicion; during searches, an AKS-74 assault rifle, 16 grenades, 74 TNT blocks, over a kilogram of gunpowder, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from him.
In the Kirovohrad region, law enforcement officers detained the organizer of a scheme to sell grenades and Kalashnikov assault rifles, including an AK-12.
In Bukovina, a man was exposed who, while serving in a combat zone, had amassed an arsenal of grenades for sale and was sending them to buyers via mail, concealing them among food items.
In Kharkiv, a 16-year-old boy was charged with attempting to sell a Russian Kalashnikov assault rifle with four loaded magazines and three live grenades.
In Zaporizhzhia, a man was caught seeking buyers to sell 150 hand-held fragmentation grenades smuggled out of the combat zone in the southern direction.
The detainees have been notified of charges under the article regarding the illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives, committed by a group of individuals acting in concert. They face up to seven years in prison.
