A former priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) who filmed his young daughters in pornographic videos has been convicted
The former rector of a church belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Dnipro will spend 10 years behind bars for sexually abusing his own minor daughters and producing child pornography. The Supreme Court fully rejected the defense’s appeal, upholding the decisions of the lower courts.
Investigators established that after his wife’s death, the 47-year-old clergyman lived with his two young daughters. Over the course of three years, he systematically committed unlawful acts of a sexual nature against them.
At the time the crimes began, the girls were only 12 and 13 years old. In addition, the convicted man filmed pornographic material featuring one of his daughters and stored these files on his mobile phone. Law enforcement officers arrested the perpetrator and took him into custody in 2023, after which the children were placed in the care of their godmother’s family.
The trial lasted several years due to procedural complications. In 2024, the appellate court overturned the initial verdict and remanded the case for retrial. However, during the retrial in 2025, the court again found the man fully guilty of the sexual abuse of minors, as well as the production and possession of child pornography without intent to distribute, and reimposed a sentence of 10 years in prison. In November 2025, the appellate court upheld this verdict, and in May 2026, the Supreme Court put an end to the case, upholding the decision as lawful. It is noted that the defendant did not admit his guilt at any of the hearings. His information has now been officially entered into the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against the Sexual Freedom and Integrity of Minors.
