A fire in the Drevlyansky Nature Reserve engulfed nearly 49 hectares
In the Zhytomyr region, a forest fire in the “Drevlyansky” Nature Reserve continues to spread. As of the evening of August 22, the fire had already engulfed nearly 49 hectares of forest, and dozens of rescue workers and reserve staff have been mobilized to extinguish it.
The forest fire broke out in the Drevlyansky Nature Reserve in the Korosten District of Zhytomyr Oblast. According to the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Zhytomyr Oblast, rescue workers and foresters continue to battle the fire. The fire is a ground fire and is spreading in separate pockets.
As of the evening of August 22, the burned area had increased to nearly 49 hectares. The State Emergency Service notes that extinguishing the fire is not easy. The rescuers’ work is hampered by high air temperatures, strong gusts of wind, and hard-to-reach areas of the forest. “Rescue workers and foresters continue to extinguish the ground-level forest fire that broke out in the Drevlyansky Nature Reserve in the Korosten region,” the agency reported.
A total of 64 rescue workers and reserve staff have been deployed to fight the fire. Fifteen pieces of equipment are also on site. So far, the fire has not been fully contained. Rescuers and foresters continue to work on individual hotspots. The State Emergency Service’s report does not specify the cause of the fire.
