Russian Strikes on Energy Sites Leave Hundreds of Thousands Without Power
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said renewed Russian missile strikes on energy infrastructure show no sign that Moscow is reconsidering its priorities. He stressed that the attacks indicate Russia is continuing its current approach to the war.
Zelenskyy called on Ukraine’s partners to intensify pressure on Russia at the same level as ongoing diplomatic efforts. He said negotiations must be matched by sustained political and economic pressure.
The strikes forced Ukrainian authorities to urgently restore heating and water supplies for hundreds of thousands of households in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions. Emergency services continue to work to stabilise the situation.
Dnipro mayor Borys Filatov described the situation as a national-level emergency. He said electricity was gradually being restored to hospitals that had been operating on backup generators. City officials also extended school holidays.
According to energy officials, around 600,000 households in the Dnipropetrovsk region remain without power.
