The SBU has warned of a new wave of scams involving "fake employees" of law enforcement agencies

The Security Service of Ukraine has noted an increase in the number of fraudulent schemes in which criminals pose as law enforcement officers, particularly from the SBU and other government agencies. The primary goal of these scams is to extort money from citizens

This was reported by the SBU.

The agency notes that scammers often begin by applying psychological pressure, fabricating alleged criminal proceedings regarding “treason,” “funding the Russian Federation,” or the purchase of prohibited goods. To amplify the effect, they send fake summonses for questioning via messaging apps.

Subsequently, the perpetrators offer to “resolve the issue” without criminal liability. In most cases, they demand that money be transferred or handed over under the pretext of a “verification” or “avoiding punishment.”

The SBU emphasizes that genuine employees do not demand money and do not conduct such “negotiations” via messaging apps.

“This is how criminals approach a person and first intimidate them with fabricated criminal cases involving alleged treason, financing the Russian Federation, or purchasing prohibited goods. To increase the pressure, the scammers often send a fake summons for questioning via messenger. Subsequently, the fraudsters offer a way to avoid punishment. To do this, in most cases they demand that money be transferred or handed over to them ‘for verification’ or ‘to avoid criminal liability,’ the statement reads.

The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens to follow basic safety rules: record the scammers’ contact information, save phone numbers and screenshots of messages, do not share bank details or make urgent transfers, and verify information only through official sources.

In case of suspicious contacts, the SBU advises calling the hotline at 1516, emailing [email protected] or [email protected], or using the chatbot “Burn the FSB Agent.”

Recently, the Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of another member of an FSB spy network that was collecting data on Ukrainian defense forces and transmitting it to the enemy to coordinate strikes in the Kharkiv region.

Earlier, the SBU’s military counterintelligence, in cooperation with the State Bureau of Investigations, exposed another agent of the Russian special services within the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a Russian military intelligence agent in the Donetsk region who was planning shelling of Kramatorsk and destroying property belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The SBU detained teenagers whom Russia had recruited to carry out terrorist attacks in schools

The SBU also detained a Russian agent who was directing airstrikes on Sloviansk.

As a reminder, the SBU has referred the case of Andriy Parubiy’s murder to court.
