The SBU exposed a military officer who directed Russian strikes on gas stations
The SBU’s Military Counterintelligence Unit has exposed a Russian military intelligence (GRU) agent within the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was coordinating Russian missile and drone strikes on the Poltava region.
According to the investigation, the mobilized serviceman from a technical support platoon was recruited after posting anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels. Gas stations were a priority target for the Russians.
During his leave from duty, he would survey the area, photograph gas stations, and transmit their geolocations to the occupiers. The agent also disclosed the location of his military unit to the enemy and was tasked with gathering information on the bases and movements of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in central Ukraine.
SBU officers detained the suspect at his place of duty. During a search, they seized his cell phone, which contained evidence of his collaboration with Russian intelligence.
The soldier was notified of his status as a suspect in high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
