SBU Exposes Serviceman Accused of Working for Russia’s FSB and Belarusian Intelligence

A serviceman from a unit of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces passed information about Ukrainian drones and ground-based robotic systems to the enemy, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported.

While serving as a UAV operator, he “provided the enemy with data on the movement patterns, types, and number of drones used by Ukraine’s Defense Forces in combat operations in the northeastern border area.”

On instructions from Russian intelligence services, the serviceman transferred to a position as an operator of ground-based robotic systems used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to evacuate the wounded and deliver ammunition near Izium. However, instead of performing his duties, “the suspect began collecting information on the deployment and combat plans of adjacent Ukrainian units.”

He also gathered data for the enemy on the tactical and technical characteristics and the use of the latest robotic systems of the Defense Forces.

After completing his tasks for Russia, the serviceman planned to flee to Russia across the front line, where he was to be met by Russian intelligence operatives.

SBU counterintelligence officers acted preemptively and documented the agent’s subversive activities. The “mole” was detained in the Kharkiv region. During searches, two smartphones containing evidence of his cooperation with Russian and Belarusian intelligence services were seized.

He has now been formally charged with high treason. The suspect is being held in custody without the possibility of bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Earlier, SBU counterintelligence, together with the National Police, prevented a terrorist attack in central Kharkiv and detained a 16-year-old agent of Russian military intelligence who was preparing an explosion in the frontline city.

Previously, the SBU detained a Russian agent in the Kharkiv region who was collecting data for missile and air strikes on Ukrainian positions in the Kupiansk direction.

In another case, the SBU detained a Russian agent who, under the guise of fulfilling defense contracts, was providing targeting data for airstrikes on Kyiv.

Earlier, the SBU also detained an enemy agent in Zaporizhzhia who attempted to infiltrate a strategic defense-industrial facility.

Separately, an SBU employee was detained while receiving a $68,000 bribe.
