Sybiga called on partners to urgently strengthen Ukraine's air defense
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on Western partners not to delay decisions on providing Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities following yet another massive Russian attack on Kyiv.
According to the minister, at least 10 people were killed as a result of Russia’s nighttime attack, which involved various types of missiles and strike drones, and the death toll may rise.
“Do not delay decisions on providing Ukraine with air defense systems! This is our main appeal to our partners after Kyiv endured a night of horror,” Sibiga emphasized.
He noted that Russian troops deliberately targeted residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
The minister stressed that attacks on the civilian population constitute grave war crimes, which Ukraine is reporting to its international partners and relevant organizations.
“Such strikes are grave war crimes, and we are informing all partners and international organizations about them, calling for those responsible to be held accountable and for decisive measures to be taken,” the foreign minister stated.
Sibiga stressed the need to provide Ukraine with modern air defense systems as soon as possible, as well as to:
- intensify sanctions pressure on Russia;
- increase military aid to Ukraine;
- expand support for Ukraine’s energy sector.
“We demand decisive international action. Not just words of condemnation, but concrete actions to stop Russian terror,” the minister stressed.
Separately, Sibiga criticized attempts to justify Russian strikes by claiming they were a “response” to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.
“In this war, there is an aggressor and a country that is defending itself in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Russia has no right to launch any strikes against Ukraine, while Ukraine has every right to respond, defend itself against the aggressor, and strike any legitimate military targets on Russian territory,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy stressed.
The Ukrainian foreign minister announced this on the social media platform X.
As a result of a massive Russian attack on the night of July 2, public transportation routes in Kyiv have been altered. This was caused by damage to the overhead power lines, a power outage, and cleanup efforts following the enemy shelling.
At least 11 people were killed and more than 30 others were injured as a result of the massive Russian attack on Kyiv that night. Rescue workers, police, and other emergency services continue to work at the sites of the strikes.
