France is supplying guidance systems for Ukraine's Flamingo missile, according to Le Monde
The French aerospace and defense corporation Safran supplies guidance systems for the Ukrainian FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missile and is also participating in the development of other defense projects in collaboration with Ukrainian manufacturers.
According to the publication, Safran’s high-precision navigation system is expected to significantly improve the effectiveness and accuracy of Ukraine’s long-range cruise missiles.
The company confirmed that it is collaborating with the Ukrainian side not only on the FP-5 “Flamingo” missile but is also working on several other defense products. Through its subsidiary Preligens, Safran also supplies Ukraine with navigation equipment, optoelectronic systems, counter-drone systems, and solutions for analyzing intelligence data.
In addition, Ukraine has agreed to purchase AASM HAMMER guided aerial bombs from Safran for its fighter jets. To fulfill this contract, the French company has opened specialized production lines.
According to Defense Express, these are AASM HAMMER (A2SM, Armement Air-Sol Modulaire) munitions, which are already in service with the Ukrainian Air Force and have proven their effectiveness in combat.
Experts note that the continued use of French guided air bombs by the Ukrainian Air Force will allow Safran not only to ramp up production but also to refine the guidance systems, which are being tested under conditions of active Russian electronic warfare (EW) operations.
The FP-5 “Flamingo” is a Ukrainian cruise missile developed by the defense company Fire Point. It was first unveiled in August 2025. After successfully passing state tests, the missile entered serial production.
Key characteristics of the missile:
- range — up to 3,000 km;
- warhead — over 1 metric ton;
- maximum speed — approximately 950 km/h;
- a combined guidance system that integrates satellite navigation with electronic warfare protection and an inertial trajectory correction system.
Experts cite the FP-5 “Flamingo’s” ease of production as one of its main advantages, while noting that its lengthy pre-launch preparation time is among its main drawbacks.
This was reported by Le Monde.
Earlier, the Ukrainian company Fire Point officially unveiled its development—the FP-5 “Flamingo” long-range cruise missile—at the prestigious international SAHA Expo 2026 in Istanbul.
