The U.S. puts its own interests first, but Trump cares about Ukraine’s future, says Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that current U.S. policy is largely focused on protecting its own interests, but he hopes that Donald Trump cares about Ukraine’s future.

The head of state spoke about this in an interview with NBC News.

During the conversation, Zelenskyy was asked whether Trump cares about Ukraine’s fate. The president replied:

“I hope so. You know what U.S. policy is like today. They care more about the United States. That, by the way, is understandable. We understand this, and I think the American team speaks very openly about it,” Zelenskyy noted.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine will not be the party blocking peace talks and is ready to hold them in any country except Russia and Belarus.

Earlier, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated that Europe must take on more responsibility in the peace negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attributed the lack of a date for the next trilateral talks to security restrictions imposed by the U.S. side and Russia’s unwillingness to meet in Washington.
