Details have emerged about the police officers who fled the scene of the shooting
Details have emerged about the patrol officers whose inaction during the terrorist attack in Kyiv sparked widespread public outrage.
The crew consisted of a young police officer who had only begun his service in 2024 and an experienced female officer with ten years of service in law enforcement.
The patrol officers’ professional backgrounds were disclosed by Yevhen Zhukov, who resigned today from his position as head of the patrol police amid the scandal.
According to him, the senior officer has been with the force since the new police force was established in 2015, yet even that experience did not help the crew navigate the critical situation.
As the investigation revealed, the officers left their patrol car near the building and ran on foot toward the cries for help.
Upon arriving at the building entrance, they found an injured child, a woman, and a man, but the moment the shooting began, the patrol officers panicked.
Instead of returning fire or covering the civilians, the officers turned around and began running toward their vehicle.
The former head of the unit explained that the officers allegedly wanted to grab a first-aid kit, but the terrorist’s chaotic gunfire completely disoriented them.
It is important to note that both patrol officers were carrying their service firearms and even managed to draw them from their holsters.
However, neither of them dared to use them against the killer, despite the immediate mortal threat to the people nearby.
Yevgeny Zhukov emphasized: “Of course, both civilians and police officers were in danger. But the procedure is simple: he should have drawn his weapon and fired a warning shot into the air. But if there was a threat, he should have used it. But he reacted that way and, unfortunately, did not use it.”
