Court Imposes Pretrial Restrictions on Military Intelligence Officer Following Shooting in Kyiv

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv imposed a pretrial restraint on a serviceman of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine who is suspected of involvement in a shootout between representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Bereznyaky neighborhood of Kyiv.

The court released the serviceman on his commander’s recognizance. Meanwhile, the defense requested that the suspect be released from custody.

The day before, GUR servicemember Serhiy Ivanov was notified of charges under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

The suspect was brought to the Pechersk District Court for the determination of a preventive measure. The hearing was held in closed session.

The defense requested that the servicemember be released from custody. Following the hearing, the court granted the suspect personal surety. The servicemember is to be released from custody immediately.

Zaur Malakshenidze, the commander of the military unit where the suspect serves, acted as his guarantor.

Zelenskyy announced an investigation into the shooting incident between the SBU and the Main Intelligence Directorate in Kyiv.

Representatives of the SBU and the Main Intelligence Directorate were served with charges in connection with the shooting in Kyiv.
