On July 14, the Rokytne District Court of Kyiv Oblast imposed a pretrial detention measure on Stanislav Luchanov, the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Anna Kyivska.” The lieutenant colonel was remanded in custody until September 10.
Luchanov and nine other servicemen from the brigade are suspected of the unlawful abduction and intentional murder of two brothers in the Kyiv region. A pretrial investigation is currently underway, during which law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the case.
Before the hearing, Luchanov told reporters that he does not admit guilt in this case. According to him, he had never seen the victims, and all the circumstances of the case must be established by the investigation.
During a recess in the court hearing, Luchanov stated that he and his family had received threats, which forced him to “act in a certain way” after the charges were announced. This refers to Luchanov going into hiding from the investigation. At the same time, he did not disclose the source or motives behind the threats against him and his family.
The judge granted the prosecutor’s motion and ordered a preventive measure for Stanislav Luchanov, the former commander of the 155th Mechanized Brigade, in the form of two months of pretrial detention without the right to bail.
Investigators suspect Luchanov and nine other military personnel of kidnapping and murdering brothers Maksym and Roman Moseychuk from the village of Kalynivka in the Kyiv region. According to investigators, on the night of June 27–28, the men were taken to another region and subsequently killed. A report of the brothers’ disappearance was filed with the Kyiv Oblast police on July 3, and on July 9, their bodies were found in a wooded area in Poltava Oblast. During the examination, experts documented numerous gunshot wounds on the brothers’ bodies. According to police, the Luchanov family had periodically complained about noise from motorcycles and music.
