The court released Nestor Shufrich from pretrial detention
The court released Nestor Shufrich, a member of parliament suspected of treason, and placed him under 24-hour house arrest.
This was reported to Hromadske by the MP’s lawyer, Viktor Karpenko.
The lawyer noted that the defense filed a motion to change the preventive measure, and the court granted it. This court ruling is not subject to appeal.
The Office of the Prosecutor General has already stated that it objected to changing Shufrich’s pretrial measure and insisted on continuing his detention. During the court hearing, prosecutors drew the court’s attention to the severity of the criminal offenses he is charged with, particularly treason, as well as to the risks which, in the prosecution’s view, remain relevant. Despite this, the court ruled to change his pretrial measure: instead of detention, the defendant will be placed under round-the-clock house arrest with the use of an electronic monitoring device.
Earlier, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv ruled to keep Nestor Shufrich, a member of parliament from the banned OPZZh party, in custody for another 60 days, through May 9.
Shufrich was “tormented” in his detention cell by the “Yedyny” telethon.
As a reminder, Shufrich submitted a bill from prison that would allow courts to suspend presidential decrees on sanctions.
