A criminal group that forged disability documents to leave Ukraine will stand trial
A lawyer and six members of a criminal group who organized a scheme to produce forged disability documents in order to obtain deferments and travel abroad will stand trial in Kyiv. Prosecutors from the Kyiv City and Darnytskyi District Prosecutor’s Offices have already filed the relevant indictment with the court.
This was reported on the official website of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
The perpetrators created fake documents, on the basis of which men or members of their families received disability certificates and were subsequently removed from military registration. While state authorities were verifying the accuracy of the information, the clients managed to secure pension payments and leave the country. The cost of such services was $7,000, and payment was accepted into the group members’ crypto wallets.
To date, law enforcement has managed to revoke 52 illegally assigned disability categories and halt the corresponding payments from the budget. The investigation established that the defendants acted as an organized group with a clear division of roles under the leadership of a practicing attorney. All instances of document forgery and illegal enrichment through evasion of mobilization during the Russian Federation’s aggression will be subject to judicial review.
As a reminder, a foreign national will stand trial in Kyiv for selling conscripts forged temporary certificates of military service eligibility—alleging unfitness for service due to health conditions—for $5,500.
Law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the scheme, who, for a substantial sum, promised a conscript that he would secure a position as a chaplain to obtain a deferment and the opportunity to travel abroad.
