Court hearing in Kolomoisky case postponed again due to bomb threat

Yesterday, 19 November 2025, the Kyiv Court of Appeal was scheduled to hear Igor Kolomoisky’s appeal against the Pechersk Court’s ruling, under which he had been held in custody from August to October.

However, the hearing did not take place due to a reported ‘bomb threat’ at the building. Kolomoisky’s lawyer, Alexander Lysak, announced the delay, with a new hearing set for 17 December 2025, according to UNIAN.

Lysak noted that the law requires appellate courts to consider complaints within three days, but in this case, the proceedings have dragged on for three months, with the new date pushing the total delay to almost four months.

“The law requires appellate courts to consider such complaints within three days. Instead, this review has been going on for three months. With the new hearing date, the actual delay will be almost four months. Thus, the appeal proceedings are taking twice as long as the preventive measure itself and more than forty times longer than the period established by law,” Lysak emphasised.

He stressed that such delays violate the right to an effective appeal and may lead to the intervention of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

“This case highlights a deep crisis in the effectiveness of judicial control in detention-related proceedings and may form the basis for another ECHR decision against Ukraine,” Lysak added.

Kolomoisky has been waiting for over six months for the start of the appeal hearing, which was filed in May 2025. There is also talk of a possible ECHR ruling on the nationalisation of his assets.
