In Kyiv, Tikhanovskaya visited the grave of a Belarusian female volunteer and the site of the Lukyanivka massacre
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the Belarusian opposition in exile, began her visit to Kyiv by paying tribute to a fallen Belarusian volunteer and visiting an area that had been hit by Russian shelling.
This was reported on her Telegram channel.
Tikhanovskaya visited the grave of Maria Zaitseva—a Belarusian volunteer who participated in protests in Belarus in 2020 and later joined the defense of Ukraine. She died on the front lines at the age of 24.
“It was very important for me to begin this visit by honoring a person who gave her life for the freedom of Ukraine and Belarus… For me, Maria is a symbol of a new generation of Belarusians. People who understand that the freedom of Belarus and the freedom of Ukraine are inseparable. And it is our duty to do everything so that the sacrifice of Maria and other heroes is not in vain,” said Tikhanovskaya.
The politician also visited the area near the Lukyanivska metro station, which was damaged as a result of Russian attacks.
“Every such strike once again demonstrates the true nature of Putin’s regime—a regime that cares neither for human lives, nor for international law, nor for any boundaries,” she noted.
