15 international audits and an apartment in Turkey: UA.NEWS has asked the NACP to disclose the results of its review of Verbytskyi’s financial disclosures
The online media outlet UA.NEWS submitted a request to the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) to investigate the financial status and asset declarations of former Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyi.
The request was prompted by public statements made by the former official, in which he attempted to justify the origin of his luxury property—specifically, an apartment in Turkey—by citing the income of his late father, a captain, and the “biased” nature of the anti-corruption agencies’ findings.
In its inquiry addressed to NACP Chairman Viktor Pavlushyk, the editorial board requests official confirmation or refutation of the validity of Verbytskyi’s claims, which he voiced in the media in May 2026, and a comparison of these claims with data from the Unified State Register of Declarations.
Key Questions for the NACP
In their inquiry, UA.News journalists ask whether the NACP has found evidence of a criminal offense under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal enrichment) in Verbytskyi’s actions, and what the current status of the review of his declarations is.
The journalists are also interested in whether the former official’s apartment in Turkey is reflected in the official reports and what source of funds for its purchase is indicated there. Did Verbytskyi actually provide the Agency with 15 international audits regarding each of his properties, and were they taken into account? And was NACP employee M. Kornechuk listed in the Register of Corrupt Officials, whom former prosecutor Dmytro Verbytsky publicly accuses of “personal vendetta” and signing an allegedly “commissioned” conclusion?
Background of the Scandal
As a reminder, Dmytro Verbytskyi resigned from his position as Deputy Prosecutor General in the summer of 2024 following widespread public outcry and a series of journalistic investigations. In particular, journalists from the “Schemes” program (Radio Liberty) discovered that the official had settled in the elite cottage community “Konik” in a house worth half a million dollars, which, according to documents, was purchased for one-sixth of that price. Subsequently, investigators discovered that his partner owned a cottage, a Porsche, and a beauty salon, the value of which was disproportionate to her official income. Additionally, investigators documented that the family owned a business center instead of a dacha, as well as foreign assets.
In May 2026, in an interview with the publication “Conflicts and Laws,” Verbytsky stated that he had not concealed any real estate properties. He explained the purchase of the Turkish apartment by noting that his late father was a captain in the merchant marine and earned up to $20,000 a month, though his mother had allegedly “thrown away” the income documents. Verbytsky attributed the NACP’s negative conclusion solely to a conflict with a former subordinate.
In accordance with the Law “On Access to Public Information,” the NACP, as the administrative body, must provide an official response to UA.NEWS’s journalistic inquiry within 5 business days. The editorial team continues to monitor this case and will inform the public of the results of the review.
Previously, the controversial former Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyi, who was dismissed following an investigation into illegally acquired luxury property, was unable to “clear” his assets through the courts. The Kyiv District Administrative Court confirmed that the conclusion by NACP investigators that Verbytsky had 37.5 million “excess” hryvnias was lawful.
It recently became known that former Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyi, who left his post amid scandal following investigations into illicit enrichment, has officially launched his political career. The Odesa regional branch of the All-Ukrainian Union “Batkivshchyna” confirmed in response to a request from UA.News that Verbytskyi is already a member of Yulia Tymoshenko’s party.
