A thousand female service members will receive new equipment for testing
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the non-governmental organization “Zemlyachki” have signed a memorandum of cooperation under which they plan to improve the women’s military uniform and test the Female Combat Gear Kit.
Currently, the only approved model of women’s military uniform is the summer field uniform. There are no winter or transitional-season options, which is why some female service members are forced to purchase the necessary gear on their own after completing basic training.
As part of the project, 1,000 female service members in combat roles will receive Female Combat Gear Kits. These will include winter and transitional-season combat boots, a “5-in-1” uniform, a winter kit, thermal underwear, T-shirts, and socks.
The kit will also include a helmet, a body armor vest with lightweight plates and an anatomical plate carrier, a personal first-aid kit with four tourniquets, a tactical backpack, active headphones, a rain poncho, a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, gloves, and a transport case.
Over the course of the year, the organization “Zemlyachki,” with the support of the Ministry of Defense, will evaluate the equipment’s usability, service life, the need to replace individual components, and its cost-effectiveness.
“This will allow us to make decisions based on data rather than assumptions—which is precisely what we are striving for in the process of reforming military logistics,” noted Deputy Minister of Defense Mstislav Banik.
Based on the test results, the Ministry of Defense will consider incorporating the updated kit into the official supply standards for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Similar approaches are already in use by the armed forces of the United States and the United Kingdom.
