Zelenskyy and Trump have agreed to meet in September
Ukraine and the United States have tentatively agreed to a face-to-face meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, which is scheduled to take place in September.
This was announced on September 8 by Georgiy Tykhyi, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“A face-to-face meeting in September has been tentatively agreed upon. Phone calls may also take place in the meantime,” he said.
According to Tykhyi, a phone call between the presidents could take place even before the in-person talks. However, the date has not yet been finalized.
Zelenskyy previously stated that he expects to meet with Trump in the second half of September, tentatively around the 20th. The exact date and location of the talks have not yet been disclosed by either side.
Among the main topics of the potential meeting could be the strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense, specifically the supply of additional interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems. The presidents may also discuss diplomatic efforts to end the war and further negotiations involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia.
Following the meeting in Kyiv, Vitkoff announced peace talks in a Ukraine-Europe-U.S. format.
In addition to issues related to ending hostilities and security guarantees, the parties discussed the country’s post-war recovery and the mobilization of resources for reconstruction, as well as economic guarantees designed to prevent another war from breaking out.
