Three Ukrainian developers will receive grants of up to $100,000 for demining technologies
Three Ukrainian teams have made it to the finals of the international engineering competition, the Minesight Open Innovation Challenge, and will receive grants of up to $100,000 to develop prototypes for humanitarian demining.
The top five participants, selected from over 90 teams from ten countries around the world, include the Ukrainian developers “Kaban Digger,” Badger, and ACTIVE ALLIANCE LLC. Also advancing to the finals were the teams AUTOGENBOT from the U.S. and WExMEx from Norway.
The finalists will work on technologies for excavating explosive ordnance. Currently, this process is mostly performed manually and accounts for up to 80% of a deminer’s working time.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Ihor Bezkaravayny, the significant number of applications from Ukrainian teams demonstrates the readiness of domestic developers to create modern solutions for the demining sector.
Over the next six months, participants will have access to funding, expert guidance, and a testing ground to evaluate their designs.
The team whose prototype successfully passes field tests will receive an additional prize of $100,000. Thus, the total amount of support for the winner could reach $200,000.
The Minesight Open Innovation Challenge project is being implemented by the American nonprofit organization Minesight in partnership with the Demine Ukraine platform, with support from the Serhiy Prytula Humanitarian Fund and the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.
