Three customs officials have been charged with causing 2.5 million hryvnias in losses to the state

Three customs officials have been notified that they are suspected of abuse of office, which caused serious harm to the public interest. Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General accuse the officials of improperly processing the import of specialized equipment in the interests of a commercial enterprise during 2021.

As a result of the suspects’ actions, the business entity did not pay customs duties in full, causing the state budget to lose nearly 2.5 million hryvnias.

The investigation established that customs officials failed to properly verify the information in the declarations regarding the origin of the goods, their year of manufacture, and their customs value. Despite automatic notifications from the risk management system regarding the need for additional checks, the suspects completed the clearance of the equipment based on inaccurate data. A pretrial investigation is currently underway under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; however, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, individuals are presumed innocent until their guilt is proven in court.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
