The Center for Public Diplomacy Debunked a Russian Hoax About Death Camps in Ukraine
The Center for Countering Disinformation has refuted claims spread by Russian propaganda regarding the alleged existence of so-called “death factories” in Ukraine.
These were fabricated claims regarding the detention of Russian prisoners of war in basements and garages, where they are allegedly subjected to torture. The Center emphasized that such reports are untrue and are part of information manipulation.
The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council reported this on Facebook.
“This is a classic propaganda technique of mirror projection: Russia describes its own documented system of ‘death factories’ in the territories it occupies, projecting it onto Ukraine. It is Russia that has created an extensive network of detention facilities in the temporarily occupied territories and in the Russian Federation,” the Center stated.
As noted, the UN has documented torture or ill-treatment in at least 114 official places of detention in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in 73 detention facilities on Russian territory, where Ukrainian civilians were deported.
In addition, released Ukrainian prisoners of war have provided detailed testimony regarding the use of torture and ill-treatment against them, the agency notes.
