A large-scale fire was extinguished in the Chernobyl exclusion zone

Rescue workers in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone have extinguished one of the largest fires of recent days. The fire covered an area of 130 hectares, but it has now been completely extinguished.

At the same time, firefighting efforts in the exclusion zone are still underway in three other areas. The State Emergency Service assures that the situation is under control and that radiation levels remain within normal limits. Rescue workers in the Kyiv region continue to extinguish fires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. This was reported by the State Emergency Service.

According to the State Emergency Service, on Saturday morning, firefighters managed to completely extinguish the fire at one of the locations. The fire covered an area of 130 hectares. Operations at that site have been completed, but firefighters are still working on three other separate fire sites.

At one of these sites, the fire has already been contained, preventing it from spreading further. Firefighting operations are ongoing at the other sites. “The situation is under control,” the State Emergency Service reported.

The agency also emphasized that there is no radiation-related threat to the public. “Background radiation levels are within normal limits,” the rescue workers noted.

Units of the State Emergency Service and specialized equipment capable of operating within the exclusion zone have been deployed to extinguish the fires. Such fires are particularly challenging due to the large areas involved, the difficult-to-access terrain, and the hot weather, which contributes to the rapid spread of the fire. Rescue workers continue to monitor the situation and are working to completely extinguish all fire hotspots as quickly as possible. This was reported by the State Emergency Service.

A fire tornado formed during a major fire in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The State Emergency Service shared footage of this rare natural phenomenon and reported that rescue workers are continuing to contain the spread of the fire.
