The State Emergency Service reported that the main cause of fires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone has been debris from downed Russian drones. It is precisely because of these crashes that most of the recent fires have occurred.
To detect fire hotspots in a timely manner, rescue workers conduct daily aerial monitoring of the area using drones.
So far, two fires involving dry grass and shrubs that broke out several days ago have already been extinguished in the Exclusion Zone. “The fires are caused by the downing of Russian UAVs and the fall of their debris. It’s safe to say this has become a recurring pattern,” Ruban noted.
Daily monitoring using drones is conducted in the exclusion zone. This allows for the early detection of fires and prevents them from spreading.

At the same time, the spokesperson emphasized that the current fires are significantly smaller in scale than the large forest fires that occurred here in previous years.
The agency also emphasizes that emergency responders constantly monitor radiation levels while fighting fires. According to the results of systematic monitoring, radiation levels remain within natural ranges and do not exceed permissible limits.
