Two regions of Ukraine have implemented special measures due to a locust infestation

Special plant protection measures have been implemented in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions following the detection of locust outbreaks; however, there remains a risk of the pest spreading to the Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions.

Specifically, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, migratory locusts were detected at a density of up to 30–40 individuals per square meter, prompting the implementation of protective measures across an area of 30 hectares, while in the Kherson region, the pest has affected approximately 155 hectares, where insect mortality is currently being recorded.

This was reported by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. The agency notes that a buffer zone has already been established around the Kherson outbreak site. Farmers and citizens are urged to immediately notify the local offices of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection if they detect the insects, so that a set of protective measures can be promptly determined.

In the summer of 2025, the active spread of migratory locusts was recorded in the southeastern regions of Ukraine.

Based on the results of inspections conducted in May, the two largest payment terminal networks—EasyPay (LLC “FC ‘Kontraktovy Dom’”) and City24 (LLC “Swift Garant”)—were hit with massive fines: 135 million hryvnias each.
