A primary school has reopened in Gostomel following its reconstruction – Regional State Administration
In Gostomel, a primary school that was damaged during the first weeks of the full-scale invasion has reopened following repairs. The school was restored so that children could return to in-person learning in safer and renovated conditions, according to the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
This was announced by Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
"After de-occupation, children were forced to study in neighboring villages—they were transported daily by school bus, classes were organized in two shifts, and schedules were adjusted to ensure the continuity of education. It was a difficult period for the entire community. But even under these conditions, education did not stop. Today, the situation is changing. Restoration work lasted from January 2025 to April 2026," Kalashnyk wrote on his Telegram channel.
He emphasized that during this time, the school’s building structures were renovated, the facade was insulated, the roof, windows, and doors were replaced, all utility systems were modernized, and the interior spaces were completely refurbished. During the renovation, the facility was modernized to meet current energy efficiency standards. Areas for sports and active recreation were created.
"It is important that this is no longer just a renovated building, but a modern school with new opportunities. Spaces have been created for digital learning, robotics, and creativity. An environment is being created where children can not only gain knowledge but also develop the skills needed today," Kalashnyk said, adding that the school has a shelter that allows for in-person learning even during air raid alerts.
The school’s restoration took place as part of the “Ukraine Recovery Program” with support from the European Investment Bank and under the coordination of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, led by Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister Oleksii Kuleba. The main funding was provided by the EIB, with additional funds from regional and local budgets.
