The mother of a captured Azovstal defender was killed in a traffic accident in Kharkiv
A fatal traffic accident occurred in Kharkiv on March 26, resulting in the death of 52-year-old Tetyana Potapova—the mother of a captured soldier who had defended Azovstal. She died in the hospital on April 28 from severe injuries sustained in the accident.
This was reported by the “Association of Families of Azovstal Defenders.”
According to the State Bureau of Investigations, a local law enforcement officer was behind the wheel of the vehicle. The accident occurred near Heroes of Kharkiv Avenue at a regulated crosswalk.
Oleksandr Bilka, spokesperson for the State Bureau of Investigations’ regional office in Poltava, reported that the victim was hospitalized with multiple injuries following the collision. According to preliminary information, the driver was sober; however, the investigation is ongoing, with expert examinations ordered and a comprehensive set of investigative measures being carried out.
The public organization “Association of Families of Azovstal Defenders” confirmed the woman’s death and stated that she is the mother of a captured defender of Mariupol. They emphasized the need for an “honest, transparent, and fair investigation,” stressing that accountability must be inevitable regardless of the status of those involved.
Meanwhile, the Kharkiv community of families of Azovstal defenders claims that an SBU employee may have been behind the wheel, driving at high speed. According to them, at the moment of the collision, the woman was crossing the street on a green light.
Official investigative authorities have not yet confirmed these statements. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
