Sentence handed down in Kyiv to arsonist who set fire to Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinets
The Kyiv City Court found a 24-year-old man guilty of sabotage and sentenced him to a severe punishment, including the mandatory confiscation of all his property. In addition to a lengthy prison term, the convicted man is required to fully compensate the railway company for 269,000 hryvnias in property damage caused by equipment destroyed as a result of arson.
This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The defendant began his criminal activities in late 2024 via the Telegram messenger app, where he received an offer from an acquaintance in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region to carry out arson attacks in exchange for a monetary reward of $300. After recruiting an accomplice, in March 2025 the perpetrators set fire to two relay cabinets near the “Darnitsa” station, recorded their actions on video for a report to their Russian clients, and were subsequently apprehended by law enforcement. The case against the second participant in the sabotage is currently being heard in a separate court proceeding.
