April brought a sudden change in the weather to Kyiv and the surrounding region
April 2026 in Kyiv and the surrounding region was marked by sharp temperature swings. The region experienced both warm days with temperatures exceeding +18 °C and frosts, some of which set new records. Weather conditions changed abruptly, making the month memorable for its “swings” between spring warmth and cold.
This was reported with reference to a post by the press service of the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory (CGO) on Facebook.
Average monthly air temperature in Kyiv
The Boris Sreznevsky CGO reported that the average monthly air temperature in the capital in April 2026 was 8.1°C.
This is evidenced by data from the "Kyiv" combined hydrometeorological station.
"This is 1.9°C below the climatic norm," the specialists noted.
Which days in April set "records" for cold and warmth
April 11 was recognized as the coldest day in Kyiv last month. On that day, the minimum air temperature dropped to -0.5°C in the early morning.
Meanwhile, the warmest day in the capital during April 2026 was the 15th.
"When the maximum temperature rose to +18.3°C," noted experts from the Central Hydrometeorological Center.
How much precipitation did April bring to the capital’s residents
According to experts, 41 mm of precipitation fell on Nauky Avenue during April.
"Which is 98% of the monthly norm," explained the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory to Ukrainians.

April results regarding water in the Dnipro
The CGO also shared the results for April 2026 regarding the water level and temperature in the Dnipro River (Kaniv Reservoir).
According to experts’ data:
On April 1, the minimum water temperature was recorded (5.2°C);
April 11 – the maximum water level (541 cm);
April 19 – the maximum water temperature (11.4°C);
April 26 and 27 – the lowest water level (449 cm).

April temperature records in the Kyiv region
According to data from the Boris Sreznevsky Central Hydrometeorological Observatory, a series of "cold" temperature records were recorded in the Kyiv region during April of this year:
On April 21, the "Piskivka" weather station recorded a record low air temperature (-4.4°C), while the previous record was set on April 21, 1984 (-3.3°C);
On April 29, the "Baryshivka" weather station recorded a record average daily air temperature (+3.9°C), while the previous record was set on April 29, 1976 (+5.6°C);
On April 30, the "Piskivka" meteorological station recorded another record for the lowest air temperature (-3.3°C), while the previous record was set on April 30, 2007 (-2.8°C);
On April 30, the Mironivka agrometeorological station also recorded a new record—the lowest average daily minimum air temperature was -1.2°C, while the previous record was set on April 30, 1917 (-1.2°C).
On May 1, there will still be frosts in Ukraine, but warmer weather is already on the way.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center released a forecast for the second month of spring, according to which temperatures and precipitation will remain within the climatic norm.
After a cold winter, Ukrainians are looking forward to spring warmth, but April will bring not only sunshine but also weather “swings.”
