Air quality in Kyiv has deteriorated due to a large-scale fire in Pohreby

On the morning of March 23, 2026, air pollution levels in the Ukrainian capital are estimated to be moderate, though readings in some areas have reached dangerous levels.

The main cause of the haze is attributed to the aftermath of a massive fire at warehouses in the village of Pohreby, which occurred the day before.

According to the SaveEcoBot monitoring service, as of 8:00 a.m., the city’s humidity is 83%, and atmospheric pressure is recorded at 751 mm Hg.

Experts are urging residents to close their windows and limit their time outdoors as much as possible.

The most severe situation is observed in the Podil and Desnianskyi districts of the city, where air quality indices reached 73 and 71 units, respectively.

This level of pollution is considered harmful to vulnerable groups, particularly children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.

The dirtiest spot in the city is currently Akademika Glushkova Avenue, where the pollution level has reached a critical 106.
