The Belarusian Ministry of Defense has warned of the risk of war with the West alongside Russia

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin stated that the risk of an armed conflict between Russia and Belarus and the West is currently extremely high. According to him, such a confrontation could quickly escalate into a global war.

“Assessing the current situation in the Eastern European region, we note that the likelihood of a military conflict involving the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, which are members of the CSTO, as well as the possibility of its further transformation from regional to global, is extremely high,” Khrenin said at a meeting of the CSTO Council of Defense Ministers in Moscow.

According to him, Belarus and Russia view the buildup of NATO forces near their borders as preparation for a possible clash. He noted that there are currently about 21,000 alliance troops stationed in Poland and the Baltic states, and at the same time, these countries are seeking an increase in the American contingent.

Khrenin also stated that NATO regularly conducts drills involving the redeployment of troops to the eastern flank alongside offensive operations against Russia and Belarus. In his view, the bloc’s record military spending, which has exceeded $1.6 trillion annually, indicates preparations for an armed conflict.

“Western political elites and their affiliated defense corporations view war as the key to internal consolidation and stable profits,” Khrenin stated. According to him, the course toward preparing for an armed conflict with Russia is laid out in the strategic documents of the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, and a number of other European countries.

In late spring, high-ranking officials from European countries told The Wall Street Journal that Russia could attack NATO within the next 12 months. The Kremlin has already escalated tensions regarding the Baltic states. On May 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing him to use the military to “protect” compatriots abroad. The Foreign Ministry claimed that Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are pursuing a “punitive policy of repression and intimidation” against Russians and announced it would appeal to the UN International Court of Justice. Meanwhile, the FSB accused Estonia of violating border treaties with Russia.
