In Kryvyi Rih, a young man shot a 16-year-old girl in the eye during an altercation

Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast have detained an 18-year-old man who shot a minor girl with an air gun on April 17. The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. at a bus stop. As a result of the shot, the victim suffered a serious eye injury and was immediately hospitalized; doctors are currently fighting to save her vision. 

This was reported by the press service of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Police.

According to preliminary reports from local media, unrequited love may have been the cause of the altercation. Law enforcement officers seized the weapon at the scene and detained the suspect. Authorities are currently deciding whether to charge him with hooliganism involving the use of firearms or other weapons, a crime carrying severe penalties.

This incident is yet another example of dangerous weapon handling among young people amid the general tension in the country. While doctors are treating the victim, investigators are establishing all the details of the tragedy. Control over the circulation of even air guns remains a pressing issue for law enforcement agencies, especially in major industrial centers near the combat zone with Russia.

On Saturday, April 18, 58-year-old Dmytro Vasylchenkov opened fire on pedestrians on Demiivska Street, after which he took hostages at the “Velmart” supermarket. Six people were killed in the attack, and about 15 others were injured to varying degrees. 

Earlier, a video surfaced online showing police officers fleeing from the shooter during the terrorist attack in Kyiv on April 18, leaving civilians behind, including a child.

At the instruction of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, an internal investigation has been launched into the actions of patrol officers at the scene of the shooting in Kyiv. For the duration of the investigation, the police officers involved in the incident have been suspended from duty.
