In Kropyvnytskyi, elevated levels of harmful substances in the air were recorded due to a fire
On August 18, following a fire in Kropyvnytskyi, laboratory tests revealed a deterioration in air quality and concentrations of several harmful substances exceeding permissible levels. This was reported by Andriy Raikovych, head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration.
Formaldehyde concentrations exceeded the permissible level by a factor of 2, dust by a factor of 1.5, and sulfur dioxide by a factor of 1.3.
“Emergency responders continue to extinguish the fire at the inactive settling tanks of the Dnipro-Kirovohrad Water Utility. Thanks to the prompt actions of the rescue teams, the situation has been stabilized, but the smoldering area currently covers 0.5 hectares. Flooding the area and extinguishing the remaining hot spots is ongoing,” Raikovich wrote on Telegram.
He urged residents to close their windows and doors, spend less time outdoors, wear protective masks or respirators, and wet-clean more frequently.
Earlier, the State Emergency Service clarified that, as of now, approximately two hectares of the settling pond area have already been flooded. Work will continue until the smoldering pockets are completely eliminated. Andriy Raikovych, head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration, announced this on social media on Monday.
In Kropyvnytskyi, inactive sedimentation tanks at the “Dnipro-Kirovohrad” enterprise caught fire due to the heat. Heavy smoke has filled the city, so residents are urged to close their windows and, if possible, stay indoors while specialists check the air quality.
