Heavy smoke in Kropyvnytskyi due to a fire at the settling tanks

In Kropyvnytskyi, inactive settling tanks at the “Dnipro-Kirovohrad” facility caught fire due to the heat. Heavy smoke has filled the city, so residents are urged to close their windows and, if possible, stay indoors while experts check the air quality.

The fire broke out on the site of the inactive settling ponds in the Kropyvnytskyi district. According to preliminary information, the heat wave caused the fire. Due to smoldering, smoke quickly spread throughout the city. As of this morning, the area affected by the smoldering was approximately 0.8 hectares.

Units of the State Emergency Service are working at the scene. Rescuers are working to extinguish the smoldering fire and are monitoring the situation. The fire was reported by Andriy Raikovych, head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration. “In the Kropyvnytskyi district, a fire broke out due to the heat on the grounds of the inactive settling ponds of the ‘Dnipro-Kirovohrad’ Water Supply and Sewerage Company. As a result, heavy smoke is visible in the regional capital,” he wrote.

Air Quality to Be Tested

Due to the heavy smoke, authorities have instructed specialists to test the air quality in Kropyvnytskyi. To this end, experts from the Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention will conduct the necessary measurements. The results will indicate whether there are hazardous substances in the air and whether additional measures are needed.

Until the test results are available, residents are asked to follow simple safety guidelines. “In the meantime, keep windows and doors closed in your homes and, if possible, limit your time outdoors. Be sure to wear protective masks or respirators when outside,” Raikovich urged. People are also advised to stay tuned for further announcements from local authorities.

The situation remains under control

The fire broke out on the grounds of the inactive settling tanks at the “Dnipro-Kirovohrad” enterprise, which provides centralized water supply and wastewater disposal services. Currently, the main task for emergency responders is to completely extinguish the smoldering fire. At the same time, experts must assess the city’s air quality. “The situation is under control. We will report on the results of air quality measurements and the progress of extinguishing the smoldering fire,” the head of the Regional State Administration noted.

Until the test results are available, residents of Kropyvnytskyi should minimize their time outdoors, especially if visibility has been reduced due to smoke or a strong odor has appeared. Andriy Raikovych, head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration, announced this on social media on Monday.
