In Lviv, transit operators were fined 1.2 million hryvnias due to problems with their buses
Since the beginning of the year, Lviv city authorities have recorded 705 violations by transit operators. Transportation companies were fined a total of 1.198 million UAH for failing to comply with contract terms.
The main problem was an insufficient number of buses operating on routes. As a result, 496 violation reports were issued, and the total fines for these violations amounted to 843,200 hryvnias. On some routes, fewer than 70% of the buses stipulated in the contract were in service.
Carriers were also fined an additional 136,000 UAH for inadequate sanitary conditions on buses—80 such cases were recorded.
During the hot summer months, the city also inspected the operation of air conditioning systems. For malfunctioning systems or drivers’ failure to use them, 59 citations totaling 100.3 thousand UAH were issued. This applies only to buses equipped with air conditioning.
Since the end of July, inspectors have begun separately documenting violations that occur when public transportation stops. For buses failing to pull up to the curb, 70 citations totaling 119,000 hryvnias have already been issued.
City council officials emphasize that inspections should cover not only the number of buses but also the cleanliness of the interiors, passenger comfort, and the quality of boarding procedures. According to Oleg Partika, head of the Transportation Department, daily monitoring allows for a quicker response to problems and enables authorities to hold carriers accountable for fulfilling their obligations.
