A memorial service for People's Deputy Stepan Kubiv has begun in Lviv
A funeral service for Ukrainian MP Stepan Kubiv began in Lviv on May 19.
The politician’s body was brought to St. George’s Cathedral around 4:30 p.m., where the funeral service is being held.
Relatives, colleagues, friends, fellow party members, and residents of Lviv came to pay their respects to Stepan Kubiv.
At 8:00 p.m., a vigil service is scheduled to begin at the cathedral, after which the coffin will remain in the church.
The funeral will take place on May 20. At 1:00 p.m., the funeral service will begin at St. George’s Cathedral, and at 2:30 p.m., a citywide farewell ceremony is scheduled near Lviv City Hall. Afterward, the funeral procession will proceed to Lychakiv Cemetery, where the politician will be buried.
Stepan Kubiv first became a member of parliament in 2012 as a representative of the Batkivshchyna party. During the Revolution of Dignity, he served as the commander of the Trade Union House in Kyiv.
After Viktor Yanukovych fled in 2014, he headed the National Bank of Ukraine. From 2016 to 2019, he served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
In 2019, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada as a member of the European Solidarity party.
Stepan Kubiv died at the age of 64.
