A memorial stele in honor of Iryna Farion will be unveiled in Lviv

A memorial stele will be unveiled in Lviv to mark the second anniversary of the death of linguist, civic activist, and political figure Iryna Farion. It will be located on Tomáš Masaryk Street—at the spot where Farion was fatally wounded.

The Lviv City Council’s executive committee approved the decision. The unveiling of the memorial is scheduled for July 19. Funding for the creation of the artwork will be provided by the city’s Department of Culture at the request of the civic association “Military Volunteer Union ‘Lion’s Heart.’”

The project was designed by the team at Guess Line Architects, which included, among others, former students of Iryna Farion. Andriy Lesyuk, Mykhailo Kogut, Kateryna Ivashchuk, Yaroslav Ivaskiv, Matvii Kuzmuk, Iryna Chabanyk, Anna Fitel, and Yegor Perepelyuk worked on the creation of the memorial space.

The designers note that the memorial stele is not a traditional monument. It is conceived as a public space for interaction, reflection, and honoring the figure of Iryna Farion and her contribution to the development of the Ukrainian language, culture, and statehood.

This was reported by the Lviv City Council on July 10.

As a reminder, the defendant accused of Farion’s murder will be represented by attorneys Kara and Kryvoruchko.

The defendant accused of Farion’s murder will be assigned a public defender.
